Florida based painter and photographer, Nawly Damier, has been honing her skills in capturing the human form for years. Her naturalistic acrylic and Indian ink-based paintings are what she is most known for, but in recent years working in photography has been her main focus. Her paintings portray her friends, family, and community around her. The artist starts off with photographing her subjects then using that as a reference photo to paint. This need to capture the people around her in the moment for her paintings is what grew her interest in photography. She has been inspired by artists like Kehinde Wiley, Kara Walker, and Dana Scruggs. The personal edge that Nawly brings to her work truly captures the intimate details of the human form through portraiture.
